Solo

During solo play, we solely focus on our own play and do not notice what others are doing. The child can play with the adult if they follow the child’s ideas but it takes a lot of effort to do an activity with other children. Solo play can therefore help the child to feel safe about trying something new like a new activity, a new place, or a new material. When we feel safe in solo play, we can maybe begin to move towards parallel play by noticing what the others next to us are doing.
